In de buurt van Rotorua ligt een van de luxere lodges die Nieuw-Zeeland rijk is: de Solitaire Lodge. De Solitaire Lodge maakt onderdeel uit van de Small Luxury Hotels of the Word en van de Luxury Lodges of New Zealand . Bij binnenkomst heb je gelijk het wauw effect. Solitaire Lodge ligt namelijk op een schitterende plek aan het Tarawera-meer. Overal zijn ramen waardoor je de hele tijd van het uitzicht kunt genieten en je niet uitgekeken raakt.


Je komt binnen in de ruime gastenlounge met bibliotheek en open haard. Daar is ook het restaurant gedeelte waar het ontbijt, lunch en diner wordt geserveerd.  De suites zijn verdeeld over de verschillende bijgebouwen op het het prachtige gelegen buitenterrein van de lodge.  De suites zijn smaakvol ingericht. Ook hier heb je gelijk het wauw effect. Elke suite heeft een prachtig uitzicht over het meer met verschillende zitjes.  Een ideale plek om te lezen, te genieten en een wijntje te drinken! Dit heb ik vaak gedaan!

Elke suite heeft zijn eigen zitje buiten, waar je met mooi weer kunt genieten van het zonnetje. Helaas hadden niet heel mooi weer toen we bij Solitaire Lodge verbleven.

Beneden aangekomen is het meer. Voor degene die niet willen lopen, kun je een golfkarretje gebruiken! In het meer kun je zwemmen, gebruik maken met de kajaks en de roeiboten.  Daarnaast zijn er mogelijkheden om met een privé boot trips te maken. Zo hebben wij de Lake Edge wandeling gemaakt. Wat bijzonder is dat in het meer zwarte zwanen zwemmen.

Het dan het eten. Om te beginnen bij het diner. Elke avond wordt er weer een heerlijk chefs menu geserveerd met heerlijk bijpassende wijnen. De ontvangst is in de gastenlounge. Daar wordt het persoonlijke menu aangeraakt met een amuse en bijpassende wijn. Vervolgens wordt je richting het restaurant gedeelte begeleid waar het chef menu wordt gereserveerd. En echt elke gang is een ware belevenis. Met mooi weer wordt het diner buiten geserveerd. En vanuit daar is het helemaal genieten van het uitzicht.

Ook het ontbijt en de lunch is van hoge kwaliteit wat je ook mag verwachten van een dergelijke lodge in die prijsklasse. De Solitaire Lodge is dus echt een waanzinnig mooie lodge op een unieke plek.
