De Garden Route is één van de mooiste en bekendste routes van Zuid-Afrika. Je rijdt hier over prachtige kustwegen langs de mooiste stranden.  Onderweg kom je verschillende nationale parken tegen met de mooiste natuur. Ook is er de mogelijkheid om in deze parken dieren, zoals olifanten te zien. De kans is ook groot dat je langs de kust walvissen en dolfijnen zult spotten. Ook vind je aan de Garden Route vele mooie accommodaties en goede restaurants. De Garden Route is dus een erg mooie route om te rijden als je in Zuid Afrika bent. Hieronder lees je mijn tips voor de mooiste plekjes die je kunt bezoeken.

 

Overnachten bij Head Over Hills

De plaats Knysna maakt onderdeel uit van de Garden Route. Ik vind persoonlijk Knysna niet heel interessant. Het lijkt meer een kunstmatig toeristisch dorpje uit Amerika. Tenminste van het stadje zelf. Daarom is het niet aan te raden om in het plaastje Knysna zelf te overnachten. Wij sliepen in de accommodatie Head over Hills. Deze ligt net voorbij Knysna boven op de klif. Head over Hills is een kleinschalig luxueus hotel dat op hoog ligt. Je hebt daarom prachtig uitzicht over de oceaan. Lunchen bij East Head Cafe
East Head Caf’e ligt vlakbij Head Over Hills. Je kunt hier lekker op het terras lunchen. Vanuit het terras heb je prachtig uitzicht over de de Knysna Heads.  Ze hebben hier heerlijk zelfgemaakte taartjes. Dit is zeker een aanrader om te proberen.

 

Struisvogel rijden in Oudtshoorn

Oudtshoorn staat bekend om haar struisvogelboerderijen. Het rijden op een struisvogel stond overigens niet op mijn bucketlist. Ik dacht ik ben er nou toch. Laat ik het dan ook maar doen. Het was eigenlijk een hele ervaring. Dit had ik zeker niet willen missen.

 

Tsitsikamma National Park
Tsitsikamma National Park is één van de mooiste natuurparken van Zuid-Afrika. Dit is waar actieve mensen  zich naar prima kunnen uitleven. Want behalve de mooie natuur van het park staat het namelijk ook bekend om de tal van (sportieve) activiteiten die hier te doen zijn. Zo vind je o.a. hier de hoogste bumpyjump van Zuid Afrika. Dit heb ik mijzelf maar even voorbij laten gaan.

 

Plettenberg Bay

Een van de mooiste stranden langs de Garden Route is het strand van Plettenberg Bay. Plettenberg Bay staat namelijk bekend als de parel van de Garden Route. En meer dan terecht. Bij Plettenberg Bay heerst een rustige sfeer en kom je helemaal tot rust. Dit ondanks dat Plettenberg Bay het oord is waar menig Zuid Afrikaan vakantie viert en het ook wel de Riviera van Zuid-Afrika wordt genoemd.

Overal om je heen zie je strand. Het strand bestaat uit kilometers brede goudgele stranden met zacht zand onderbroken door een rivieruitmonding. Het uitzicht is dan ook prachtig. Naast relaxen op het strand kun je nog veel meer doen. Je kunt o.a.boottochten maken om walvissen en dolfijnen te spotten. Ook kun je er watersporten uitoefenen zoals als surfen of kanoën.

Als we in Plettenberg Bay zijn overnachten we altijd in het Plettenberg Hotel. Dit hotel ligt aan het strand en heeft prachtig uitzicht over de Indische oceaan. Lees hier meer over Plettenberg Bay.

 

The Look Out Deck


Vlakbij het hotel Plettenberg  ligt bijna op het strand het cafe/restaurant The Look Out Deck. Het terras heeft een gezellige sfeer. Het is er leuk om nog een drankje te drinken. Het uitzicht is hier prima.

 

Emily Moon River Lodge
Ook een aanrader is Emily’ Moon River Lodge. Deze lodge ligt net buiten Plettenberg in een riviervallei. Wij hebben hier nog niet overnacht, wel gegeten. We gaan hier zeker nog een keer overnachten. Anders houd ik het gevoel dat we een mooie locatie gemist hebben.

 

Bramon Wine Estate

Bramon Restaurant is een echte aanrader tijdens de Garden Route. Dit is een hele fijne plek voor de lunch. Je kunt namelijk tussen de wijndruiven lunchen. Van de menukaart kun je tapas hapjes bestellen. En deze zijn om je vingers bij af te likken! Wij bestellen altijd lekker veel. Alles is namelijk gewoon lekker. Daarnaast is ook zeer betaalbaar. Tijdens de lunch kun je hier ook de beste Zuid Afrikaanse wijnen proeven. Deze wijnen kun je overigens ook kopen. Wij nemen altijd wat flesjes mee naar huis. Elke keer als ik hier weer ben is het genieten!

 

Addo Elephant Park

Addo Elephant Park is een van de bekendste wildparken in het zuiden van Zuid-Afrika. Mocht je niet op safari gaan tijdens je reis naar Zuid Afrika dan heb je bij dit park de mogelijkheid om de big 5 te spotten.
